Attorney Profile: Kay Jones

I am an Arizona native and have been serving the legal needs of the Phoenix area since 2012. I graduated from Arizona State University with a degree in Political Science, and decided to continue my education at the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University. I wanted to pursue my legal career in the community I know and love.

While I was in my second year of law school, I took family law and juvenile law courses that spurred my interest in helping serve the best interests of children. I began my career helping families and individuals with divorce, custody and other domestic relations issues while still in law school as an intern for a large Phoenix-based family law firm.

I continued on in that practice area after becoming a licensed attorney, and spent a lot of time discussing and negotiating settlements.  I also gained a lot of courtroom experience arguing my clients’ positions at various hearings and trials.  As your attorney, I can be there to help you understand the workings of the family law court and what possible outcomes you can expect, working hard to present our position in the most effective way possible.  As a mother of two young boys, I understand the need to fight for and protect my children. It is my goal to use my abilities to fight for yours as well.

Most recently, I worked as an in-house attorney for one of the nation’s largest insurance companies defending against personal injury lawsuits. The insight and experience I gained as an insurance defense attorney gives me the knowledge to fight for a just recovery on behalf of my clients. I worked closely with defense medical experts and biomechanical experts, and I know the arguments and tactics that will be used by the other side because I personally used them for several years.  I know what information and evidence can successfully counteract those arguments and can use them to help you recover what you deserve in your injury case.  Sometimes insurance companies just don't consider enough of what you may have suffered through - I want to make sure that they have all of the information to fairly evaluate your case.

Throughout my career, I have presented evidence and arguments at dozens of arbitration hearings, and have also represented clients throughout all phases leading up to a jury trial. I also attended a week-long training in Colorado to advance my skills in depositions, oral arguments and trial practice, and received a certificate from the National Institute of Trial Advocacy for completion of that course.  I will work with you to decide together when it would be appropriate to go to court, and I have the experience to continue on to arbitration or trial when necessary.
